Big "Joe"

Most people don’t think about chairs, because they are part of our surroundings, meant to support us silently and constantly, without attracting much attention. But what is a “chair” exactly? How have they become so fundamental that we take their presence for granted? Why do chairs look the way they do?

To find answers on these questions I started with analysing many different chairs. My goal was to analyse the expression of a chair in relation to its usage. Also the tectonic appearance in relation to its expression was analysed. This resulted into a new chair design, "Joe".
